On 17.06.2023 (Saturday) and 18.06.2023 (Sunday), within the framework of the project “The living cultural heritage of two nations on one scene”, a two-day Joint Event “Youths teaching Youths” was organized and held in Strumica, North Macedonia. At the event, 5 youth people from Mikrevo, Municipality of Strumyani, Bulgaria, along with 1 professional choreographer, presented Bulgarian culture through the legends of carnival group “Kukeri” and Pirin folk dances typical of South-western Bulgaria. Twenty (20) youth people from North Macedonia participated at the event, at the same time building friendship and raising their knowledge about the living cultural values of Bulgaria. Total of 26 participants attended the event in Strumica.

During the event, presentation of Bulgarian culture through the legends of carnival group Kukeri (history, traditional dance, costumes) was made as well as presentation of the costume of the Kukeri and teaching the initial steps for their performance. A practical exercise and learning the steps of Kukeri with participation of all youth people (from Bulgaria and North Macedonia) was also made.

Further, there were practical performances and presentation of the steps of traditional Pirin folklore dances by the youths from Bulgaria as well as performances and practice of traditional Pirin folklore dances by all participants at the event.

The project “The living cultural heritage of two nations on one scene” is co-funded by the European Union and by National Funds of the Participating Countries under the Interreg-IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Bulgaria – North Macedonia 2014-2020.

During the two-day Joint Event in Strumica, the EU source of funding was appointed and promoted in order to inform the public.
